loft709Mark Power is easily one of this city’s finest Electro/House DJs. Any time he spins, it’s a treat, and tonight is no exception. In fact, it’s more like exceptional, since joining him will be ex-pat DJ Kevin Penney.

I had the privilege of checking out Penney at Spin a couple of weekends back, and dammit if he didn’t make me dance.

While it’s all but certain Power will play this town again, this is Penney’s last set before leaving us for who-knows-how-long.

Emergency gets underway at 10pm tonight at LOFT 709 on Duckworth Street (across from Bates Hill).

basskleph

We’ve been doing our darndest here at Signal lately to let you know about the impending arrival of Bass Kleph and the dance floor joy he’ll bring to this city come Saturday night.

But don’t just take our word for it.

Here’s a video message Bass Kleph recently recorded from London, to we, the fine people of St. John’s.

Don’t see that often.

Advance tickets at Ballistic are reportedly running low. They’ve got a special deal on for early birds who like to flock together: buy four tickets and the fifth one is free.

Bass Kleph’s most recent track is called $pend My Money, and apparently the promoters are taking that literally. Lucky for you!

This is the Electro you’ve been waiting for

Are you Electro-curious?

If you’ve been wondering what this Electro thing we keep discussing on Signal is all about but have been hesitant to take to the clubs to find out, Bass Kleph is just what you’ve been waiting for.

Even if you’ve never really listened to Electro before, you’ll have heard and even be familiar with elements of what Bass Kleph likes to mix into his sets just by winding your way through the mall or flicking through the channels — that’s what happens when a popular track from the underground breaks through to the mainstream. Mixed heavily with the bravest new sounds around, Bass Kleph has a way of making the old sound fresh, and the fresh sound familiar.

Buzz Management and sceneSTIR have joined forces to bring this star of the international electronic music scene from Australia to the misty climes of downtown St. John’s. They know Bass Kleph will not only blow the minds of every Electro-lover in St. John’s, but will also make the perfect introduction for anyone who’s yet to realize what they’ve been missing.

Check out the event page for more details.

This looks like some good clean fun.

Mary Hell, host of Montreal’s weekly Beat Me Up and dedicated designer of good times, will be roughing things up on the dance floor at Junctions circa tonight. Doors blast open 11pm and seal up tight 3am. A tenner gets you in.

You can download her latest mix for a taste.

Put this Patch in your ears

That’s the new single from St. John’s resident Ryan Green, aka Patch.

Motion Ranger has my full attention, and if I don’t hear any local DJs spinning it soon I might have to cause a ruckus.

dat matrix album artPatch whipped up an album for RPM ’09 this past February, and it’s whipping me into a frenzy on the dance floor I seem to have carved into the middle of my bedroom. The first track is an ode to Boys Noize (of Feist’s My Moon My Man remix fame), so already you know you’re off to a good start.

This is grimy electro with a party to get to — the kind I like, and I think you will, too.

You can listen to and download Patch’s entire RPM ’09 album, dot matrix with stereo sound, from his bandcamp website.

breezeway-dancepartyGet ready to mash your feet relentlessly into the floor from 8pm to 3am tonight.

Hardly known for their electro-flavoured dance parties, The Breezeway is branching out — heck, they’re moving to a whole other tree, and it’s full of crazy space monkeys.

Hosted by those mischievous imps at The Muse, the End of Class Dance Party is shaking up and reshaping the Breezeway into an all-out dance club, with decor-like-you’ve-never-seen-before by hot young design thing J9, and blips, bumps and beats from local heroes of house Herman Collider, DJ Benjy and Leo van Ulden.

It won’t take a lot of licks to get to the chewy center of this one.

Cover is five bucks. Must be 19 or older. Coat check optional. Attitude check required.

While you wait, here’s a little something with some bounce in it to get you in the mood:
