Downtown online

What is downtown? Whether working, living, or just visiting for the weekend, the Downtown Development Commission has the website for you: downtownstjohns.com.

I recently found this site on one of my daily internet purusing sessions and thought, hmmm, maybe I should let other people know about this. Why not right? I’m also a huge fan of John Atkins & Co.‘s web design, who, you guessed it, designed the very website I’m discussing. They constantly turn out highly efficient, clean, and innovative web sites, and this one is no exception.

With stunning photo’s from local photographers streaming at the top of the home page, it makes downtown St. John’s look exactly how it feels, warm and welcoming.

The website offers great tips on parking, has an amazing virtual map of the downtown area, and it also has a great directory that lists everything from accommodations to wedding supplies.

Downtown business owners are even allowed to promote their companies free of charge; all you have to do is become a member.

It’s attractive to tourists because it outlines places to shop, events, and plenty of other things to keep one occupied while visiting. And for the bored locals, maybe you’re not looking for excitement in the right places, so check it out.

The Atlantic Telegram Corporation

I get it, times are tough for the news industry and revenue has to come from somewhere, but nothing alienates your visitors more than some full page unavoidable splash advertising. YAY!

After the story of a customer voiding out the winning ticket hit the wire some months ago — a thinly veiled attempt by the ALC to teach people they should always buy their accidental tickets, thus boosting profits — it sort of makes you wonder exactly how far in The Telegram’s pants are Atlantic Lottery Corp. actually reaching and exactly how much pull they’ve got there.

Surely they’ve made it to third base by now.

Pretty sure this is what Shakespeare had in mind

Cochrane never shuts off

I saw this and thought: lol.

Then I actually laughed out loud.

You’ve heard him on the radio, seen him on the telly, and now he’s swimming down your intertubes via twitter. It’s tweets like this and oh, all that other newsy stuff, too, that make Newfoundland’s @CochraneCBCNL a must follow.

Kilbride wooo-girl from Ellen is going to the Grammy’s

You know her from the video we posted a couple weeks ago.

Now she’s going to the Grammy Awards. In typical Ellen fashion, she’s picking out a hilarious member of her audience from a previous show and giving them their 15 minutes of fame.

From Ellen’s site:

Ellen loved her viewer Keri’s incredibly enthusiastic personality so much, she thought Keri would be a perfect Grammy correspondent. Needless to say, Keri was excited to hear the news!

….umm…

WOOOOOOOOOO!!
