While Miss Newfoundland, a royal of sorts, signs her name in the guest book at Government House during today’s annual Garden Party, Marc Emery, the so-called Prince of Pot, holds court in Bannerman Park just across the street.

For close to three hours, Emery held his audience captive with a mix of facts and figures, anecdotes and analogies regarding his experience with marijuana, an illegal substance which he and many other Canadians believe should be legalized.

Notice the RNC vehicle in the background. Presumably the police were only there to make sure the crowd never got unruly (you know how aggressive those pot smokers can be).

Pretty much everyone in attendance today was rolling up and smoking up without fear of repercussion as it was all but a given that the police wouldn’t be busting anyone: it wouldn’t make for good PR.
