The photo above (click for larger view) is a concept of how two of newest office developments for downtown would look if they were built.

The Fortis proposal for the east end of Water Street has stirred heated debate, which seems to be primarily from residents that feel that their view of the harbour is a constitutional right. While the proposal on the west end of Water Street in the former Woolworth’s site has received very little attention.

Both of these proposals would provide much needed class A office space in a city with the one of the lowest office vacancy rates in the continent.

The January 2010 economic review provides insight into a continuously changing economy, and one that is currently viewed as distinct from the Canadian and North American experience as St. John’s has largely avoided economic turmoil seen in other places.

This report is designed to provide current information about economic conditions that business operators and managers can use in making decisions; it is not comprehensive but does provide a wide ranging overview of the local business climate.

PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) announced that it will be following Prime Minister Stephen Harper around today dressed as a seal in an attempt to convince Canada to stop the annual seal hunt.

PETA has confirmed that they will be at the Delta Friday afternoon while the Prime Minister addresses the construction association.

I’m not condoning this action or urging anyone to do it, but if I was not working this afternoon, I would certainty think about purchasing a can of paint and covering the seal mascot in it, or better yet giving it a seal flipper pie in the face.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper, our leader whom recently shut down Canadian Parliament until sometime in March, is scheduled to visit St. John’s on Friday to meet with Premier Danny Williams.

Apparently there is no official agenda for their meeting, but with their ever amusing news making relationship you have to wonder about the real purpose of the get together is.
