Art Meaney is the man when it comes to running in St. John’s. He holds five age category records for the Tely, won it ’79, and has coached both the mens and womens cross country teams at Memorial University for a number of years. Basically, he knows running, and he knows the local runners. Hear what he has to say about this year’s Tely 10 race on CBC’s Crosstalk.

I saw this on campus today and thought it was worth sharing. It seems pretty insane that they would be refusing to take blood from someone just because of their sexual orientation when the need for blood donations is so high. I really don’t know much about this situation though, perhaps someone in the know could share their thoughts?

Colin Fewer, of Tely 10 fame, came 12th overall this past weekend in the Ottawa 10km Race. Kate Vaughan came 10th out of the women. Not too shabby considering there were 8500 people in the race!

More info, including the full results, is available here.

Anti-Dictatorship Rally

If I wanted to live in a dictatorship, I’d move to Cuba. Harper has gone too far. I know this because I found myself in the mist of a political protest this past Saturday. While I do vote in major elections, I wouldn’t describe myself as politically active. I’m not a member of any party. I believe more in my judgement of the person than their party for the most part. Yet this past Saturday at 1pm, I was shoulder to shoulder with many other Canadians fighting to keep this country great. It was freezing cold, and the speeches were filled with too many jokes about Facebook, but this demonstration impressed upon me a sense of pride in my country that I don’t know if I’ve ever felt outside of Olympic hockey in all honesty.

People do care.
